Title:  The NHII Vision

Session Focus/Summary:


Senate Majority Leader and physician, Dr. William H. Frist, has articulated a vision for electronic healthcare in a policy speech to the National Press Club and more recently, in an article that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Join his Health Policy Advisor, Liz Scanlon, to explore the Senate Majority Leader's healthcare policy blueprint, including his vision of implementing electronic healthcare records in America, key updates from the Legislature and an update on the activities of the Commission on Systemic Interoperability, an influential committee authorized for implementation under the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) with appointees from President Bush and Dr. Frist. The Commission will provide recommendations to the President concerning electronic records interoperability and adoption.  Liz Scanlon brings a broad background in the areas of finance and healthcare to this special session.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the Senate Majority Leader's Healthcare Policy related to National Healthcare Information Infrastructure
  1. Discuss the latest legislative issues that are impacting electronic healthcare policy

Biography:


Elizabeth P. Scanlon serves as Health Policy Advisor to the Office of the Senate Majority Leader.  She provides assistance to Dr. Frist in his work on the H.E.L.P. Congressional Subcommittee (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) and also in his work as the member of the Senate Finance Committee.
