THIRD NATIONAL MEDICAL BANKING INSTITUTEFebruary 24-25, 2005 Nashville, TN Registration | Agenda | Institute Materials | Location & Lodging | Sponsorship
Welcome
The adoption of electronic healthcare is accelerating but serious issues remain. Banks have dealt with similar issues to implement electronic systems and now have an historic opportunity to ramp America's providers into vibrant digital community frameworks. Banks "have the power" - capital, technology, operational experience - to add compelling value to the national process. The founder of the Medical Banking Project comments:
Timing is Everything
Following this directive, HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson issued a call to develop a report on implementation of NHII within 60 days from close of the Cornerstones for Electronic Healthcare event in Washington, DC. Organized by David J. Brailer, MD, PhD, the newly appointed National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the event drew members from the senate, top leaders from associations and companies that all expressed support for the national IT initiative. In an effort to include the banking stakeholder, the Medical Banking Project sought and received a request to provide information to Dr. Brailer's office. We intend to provide a plan by March of 2005 based on the efforts of open medical banking workgroups organized for this purpose. All attendees will become part of this "work in progress."
A Working Conference
In our previous Institutes, we focused on cross-industry policy in the emerging medical banking segment. New business models were showcased during panel discussions. Our 3rd Institute will build upon work from these Institutes, 12 HIPAA Policy Roundtables and Telebriefings with government officials. Workgroups will make final recommendations and these will be consolidated into an official industry report that will be provided to HHS, OCC and other agencies. If
you are concerned about policy issues in the medical banking industry,
we urge you to join this effort! We need to get the word out that banks
can be a tremendous power for good in healthcare. Your voice is vital
so please join us at the Institute.
The Process The Institute will provide a facilitated educational environment to assist workgroups to drive to final observations and industry recommendations during breakout sessionsed. Leading up to the Institute, these workgroups are drafting Working Papers that outline key opportunities and critical path issues. Working Papers will be posted online in January, 2005, and are focused on five key tracts: After the breakout sessions, a special part of the program is reserved for Workgroup leaders to present final recommendations to the audience. These will be incorporated into a landmark document - A Medical Banking Road Map for America. The document will highlight how banks can become significant stakeholders in our healthcare system.
