The
Working Process at the National Medical Banking Institute
Background
The Medical Banking
Project organized a series of educational forums over four years to research
the latent convergence between financial institutions and the healthcare
industry (see Roundtables, Telebriefings,
Institutes), and isolate potential
issues and opportunities in the following areas:

Improving operational efficiencies in healthcare administration

Compliance and public trust

Improving liquidity in healthcare

Improving healthcare access

Identifying potential threats to our national healthcare system
Our platform of ideas
were documented in White Papers and widely disseminated via trade journals
and other venues. The White Papers were used to define five workgroups.
Leaders from industry joined these workgroups and began the process of
analyzing the White Papers in conjunction with attendees at our 3rd National
Medical Banking Institute during facilitate breakout sessions. This resulted
in a series of Industry Findings/Recommendations. The consolidated White
Papers and findings/recommendations were then placed into a landmark publication:
A Medical Banking Road Map for
America, Version 1.
Working
Process
During 2005, workgroups
have broadened their respective work areas. We added a new workgroup focused
on Health Savings Accounts. Finally, the workgroups have been organized
around the C.O.M.B.A.T. Initiative.
Specific deliverables relating to common industry goals have
been integrated into our workflow process.
Workgroup Leaders
will facilitate workgroup sessions at our 4th National Medical Banking
Institute using the current year's work as a baseline. We will review
subject matter, score industry progress related to last year's findings
and seek consensus for a new series of recommendations/findings for 2006.
The sessions are open to all attendees to provide a "sounding board" to
our workgroup efforts. They are a rich source of information and represent
a unique, facilitated learning environment for executives in government,
commerce and academia. An outline of our sessions is as follows:
Facilitation
The Vanderbilt
Center for Better Health will facilitate our working sessions. Coupled
with workgroup leaders and subject matter experts, workgroups will complete
assignments that result in a series of final observations and/or industry
recommendations.
Workgroup
Reports
Each Workgroup Leader
will provide a 20 minute report on findings/recommendations during a plenary
session on Thursday, February 23. Final recommendations will be placed
into Version 2 of A Medical Banking Road Map
for America and sent to appropriate government officials.
We look forward to working with you to impact the medical banking industry
at our Institute.
